Learning to Love Winter

In the West we live in a culture that honours the beauty of the body, the material, of wealth, celebrity, fame. These earthly attractions sparkle and shine to lure you in, and then take hold tightly to keep you there in the heart of form. Many of us are seduced, thanks to the power of the mind. Our minds adore planning and scheming, dreaming up new ways to dress ourselves in this sparkle, becoming fearful the moment a part of it drops away. This is why Winter hurts.

As the temperature drops and the North wind blows, sparkle disappears, leaves drop and shrivel, birdsong no longer dominates, all becomes quiet and still. Oh, how we fear the silence! Why not fill it with Christmas lights, parties, loud chatter, exaggerated joy, and numb the fear with wine and spirits? In this escape and denial of Nature we convince ourselves that we are alive and happy, however, our eyes are partially closed as we live out a veiled reality in a dream world, not fully awake. This is why Winter hurts.
And yet Winter is gifted to us every year as a test or reminder that outer form is not permanent. It is the perfect season for releasing our true spirit, for glimpsing fearlessness, touching pure presence, awakening to our true power beyond material wealth and beauty. I'm talking about your Sat Nam, when you identify more with spirit (your inner power) than with form.
It's as if Winter has been purposely created to enable you to drift in and up to the higher vibrations, letting go of the lower vibrations of being, because higher frequencies can be reached more easily during Nature's resting time. It's so much easier to meditate because the sun stays low and its energising rays are unable to pull you away so easily. Try regular Winter meditation to conquer fear, reduce anger. Watch resentment towards people fall away. Notice how you stay open and not so tight. Observe the fact that things are still happening that you don't want to happen, but interestingly they don't seem to touch you as much. They can't reach back to where you are because you've drifted behind the part of you that reacts to things. This is what happens when you let go of the lower vibrations of being.

When you identify with your Sat Nam, with your soul you walk around feeling love. You love for no reason. Your backdrop is love. Your backdrop is openness, beauty and appreciation. You don't have to make yourself feel this way, that is how soul feels.
If you ask how the body feels normally, you might say that it is generally uncomfortable about one thing or another. How about the mind? You'd probably say it's generally full of complaints, fears and stories. How does soul or spirit normally feel? The truth is, it always feels good. It always feels high. It always feels open and light.
You reach spirit by letting go of the rest, by releasing the physical, emotional and mental aspects of being so that Spirit becomes your state.
This is what happens when you meditate, particularly in Winter, and most definitely when using this Kundalini Feel Good gem:
Meditation for Self-Stimulation into Ecstasy. (or sometimes known as Dr Feelgood)
This meditation will lead you to feeling good, towards a state of ecstasy, creating a protective shield around you.
Tune in by chanting ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO three times
Sit in easy pose (legs crossed, spine straight) ideally on a meditation cushion. Put hands into Giaan Mudra (index finger tips and thumb tips lightly touching) backs of hands resting on knees. Be very calm and quiet. Concentrate closed eyes towards the root of the nose. INHALE in 3 equal parts through the nose, mentally vibrating the mantra, Sat Naam, Sat Naam, Sat Naam. Hold the breath as you turn the head over the right shoulder. Exhale and return the head to centre, mentally vibrating the mantra Whaa-Hay Guroo. Repeat the breath, but turn the head to the left. continue alternating.
7 minutes
Relax by extending the legs straight in front and bend forward grasping the toes if you can, or placing hands on shins/knees. Let the head relax and meditate at the root of the nose. Let the mind go. Project into the cosmos.
Continue for 5 to 7 minutes.
Tune out by chanting 3 long SAAAAT NAAAAMs
