The Remembering Place, is my podcast, designed for you to take a pause in the middle of life’s busy rhythm to reconnect, reflect, and recharge. It was inspired by the wonderful guests at Scented Garden Private Spa, Orston, Nottinghamshire, where I carry out a Relax into the Day session to ease everyone into their day. The feedback from many highlighted a need for a regular dose of relaxation in everyone's lives, so The Remembering Place brings just that direct to your home.
The latest episode dives into a subtle, yet powerful difference: the one between rest and relaxation.
You may not feel there is a difference between the two, but this subtlety lies at the heart of The Remembering Place and explains why it's a good idea to subscribe.

Rest is when you stop doing. Stop moving your physical body. You sit down, lie down, pause. Maybe you watch tv, scroll on your phone, or read a book. Your body stops moving, your schedule might take a break, but that doesn’t always mean you’re recharging in the way you truly need. You’ve trained yourself to think you’re relaxing when you watch tv, but let me enlighten you…this is rest, not relaxation.
So what is relaxation?
Relaxation is deeper. It’s intentional. It’s conscious. It's when you make space not just for the body to pause, but for the mind and spirit to soften, to release. In fact during conscious relaxation a lot is going on. You are rejuvenating your parasympathetic nervous system (the one we all struggle to switch on!) You are helping muscles release rigid patterning and adopt a more neutral state, glandular shifts take place, you centre yourself emotionally and you are helping the body and mind to develop an understanding of its own natural state, so that it relaxes automatically throughout the day.
Relaxation is not easy. It’s an art that we’ve forgotten and requires daily practice. Commotional living, that most of us experience day to day, cultivates anxiety, anger, and depression, which then makes relaxation even harder. But, it means you need relaxation even more.

When you relax, you don’t just stop, you let go. When you let go, you allow yourself to feel your connection to your soul, to drop your attachment to the physical realm, putting you in the eye of the hurricane of life, allowing you to breathe free from distraction just for a moment.
Rest may slow you down, but relaxation brings you back to yourself. Your natural state of pure being.
So, the next time you sit down to rest, ask yourself: Am I just stopping? Or am I truly relaxing? And make the decision to consciously relax by tuning in to The Remembering Place. Surrender softly. Remember deeply.
